Focussing on Coasts

As a diver, marine biologist and underwater photographer, Sue Scott spends a lot of her time on the coast, which provides the opportunity for some above-the-water shots, as well as unusual views of the coastline from below water.

JELLYFISH AND HOUSE VIEW Sue captured this unusual shot of the house where she and Michael live in Loch Carron from underwater, with a shoal of moon jellyfish providing an arresting foreground.	UNDERWATER ASPENS? In this unexpected shot, Sue has an underwater view of a thicket of aspen trees (Populus tremula) growing on a cliff near their house in Lochcarron.
LOCH CARRON VIEW The beautiful setting for many of Sue's underwater photographs: the fjord-like sealoch of Loch Carron in Wester Ross, looking out towards the Cuillin Hills on Skye.	LOCH CARRON SUNSET Living beside Loch Carron gives Sue the perfect opportunity to capture the landscape there when weather conditions are just right.
NORTHERN BOTTLENOSED WHALES (Hyperoodon ampullatus) Sue spent several days photographing two Northern Bottlenosed Whales, probably a mother and calf, when they briefly stopped off in Broadford Bay on Skye in 1998.	RED TIDE A less appealling coastal view of a 'red tide' on the coast of northern Skye, caused by the build-up of a microscopic dinoflagellate, Noctiluca scintillans, as a result of nutrient enrichment of the water from natural or man-made causes.
